WALKING

Prague is very walkable. If you dropped from the sky and landed in Old Time Square you would be in a good position to walk everywhere interesting within 30 minutes. The city sits in a valley split in half by a river and surrounded by rolling hills. The encircling hills forced compactness on the city builders. Streets are narrow, buildings are pressed against each other, and the ‘other side of town’ is a 30 minute walk. The valley is where most of the historically interesting sights are. Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Square, Jewish Cemetery and Old Town are all on the flat valley floor - this makes walking easy. Of course there are exceptions, the hilltop perched Prague Castle is an example.

DRIVING

Prague has one of the best public transportation systems in Europe and has ranked fifth best in the world. The metro, trams and buses are used by two-thirds of Prague's population and cover the majority of the city and outskirts. The metro especially makes getting around town a breeze since it enables you to cover long distances in a matter of minutes.

IPTA 2021 will provide complimentary public transportation passes during the Congress dates. Passes will be distributed at onsite registration.

PUBLIC TRANSIT

Prague is a major crossroad for European East-West and North-South road traffic. Highway and motorway network links Prague with all surrounding countries and is still expanding and developing.

TAXIS / UBER

Prague has 24-hour efficient taxi services. Use of official taxi services is highly recommended. Always agree on the final price first before getting in. Tipping is not obligatory but 10% will be appreciated if the service was good.

Approximate prices:

  • Boarding fee (minimum charge): €1.50
  • 1km: €1.05
  • 1 minute wait: €0.25
  • The 17-km taix ride from the Vaclav Havel Airport to downtown should cost around 450 Kc (€18).

Uber is available including from / to the airport and in the city. The only disadvantage is that there are only few drivers.
